The Appamattock badge had been a long forgotten trinket in a box filled with minie balls and arrowheads until a cold windy December day in 1996. Robert Spiers invited my friend, Donnie Gargis, and me to relic hunt at his home in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Roberts home, Raceland, is a large colonial style home built in the early 1700's. I was field-testing a First Texas metal detector and thought this would be a great site to try it out.
