Placer gold results from the slow process of milling and concentration due to the natural erosion of gold-bearing rocks. The origin of gold placers can often be traced directly to auriferous veins, lodes or replacement deposits, which, in most cases, are not particularly high-grade, according to Eldred Wilson, a Bureau of Mines geologist for the state of Arizona.
