World War II was almost over in Europe. Most surviving German convoys in April 1945 were filled with wounded soldiers fleeing the overwhelming masses of Russian troops swarming from the East, but a more sinister convoy left Trieste on the Adriatic coast and wound its way north into Austria.This convoy moved more slowly, the truck beds settled down heavily onto the springs.
