A few years ago, I received a letter from two treasure hunters who wanted to meet with me to talk about one of the articles Id written about the Belen, New Mexico, train robbery of 1898.

The two men who robbed the train were Bronco Bill Walters and Kid Johnson. The stolen money consisted of $40,000 in currency and an unknown amount of silver dollars. After a quick call, we arranged to meet at a restaurant in Albuquerque. They said I would be very interested in what they wanted to show me. They wouldnt tell me about it on the phone, and said, If you see it, youll believe it.
