Although smallest of the five Great Lakes in area, the waters of Lake Ontario are definitely known to cover enough sunken treasure to occupy a host of hardy searchers and to reward them handsomely for their efforts.

An attempt to compile a full list of ships that have gone down at various points on Lake Ontario since the middle of the eighteenth century would be a monumental task indeed. We will consider here only a few of those known to have carried cash and cargoes which would provide worthwhile salvage.
