The Soviet newspaper Komsomol Pravada is sponsoring a search for the treasure looted from Moscow by Napoleon. When the French captured Moscow in 1812, they plundered the gold and jewels of the Kremlin Palace. However, when Napoleon began his retreat, the icy Russian winter closed in and the Russians constantly harassed his columns. The retreat became a rout and the treasure was too much of a burden for freezing men to carry. The priceless treasure was abandoned in some unknown spot and has not been seen since.
