Big Silver!!
I decided to take my Fisher F5 for a walk this afternoon to a farm field where an old mail station used to be. I was introduced to it by a local detecting group here in San Angelo and had some time this afternoon to try my luck. There have been half dimes, seated dimes, seated quarters and so on, taken out of this field in the past. Today it was my turn.
I swung my machine for about an hour and a half and pulled lots of square nails before finding this beauty just ten minutes before I was going to give up. I had what I thought was an iffy quarter signal, probably masked by the nails, but to my surprise I unearthed this 1856 O seated half dollar. It was buried in the traveled portion of the field where most vehicles park. Found it about five inches down and it took my breath away!
It's still a bit dirty after a mild soap bath...Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the rest of the dirt removed? Or should I just leave it alone?
Sweet find. It would pick my heart rate up bet that.
Mild soap and water. I wouldn't do any more than that. If it shows evidence of cleaning it will detract from the value. Beautiful find by the way.
It's beauiful just like it is, I wouldn't chance doing anything more. Great find!
