Hi Everyone, I'm a long time lurker here and have given up hope for identifying a button that I found in Virgina a few years ago. I know that the experts here will be able to shed some light on it`s origin and possible worth. Thanks for looking, Brian

You should post this photo on

You should post this photo on www.relichunting.net   There are some people on that site who have helped me ID my finds numerous times.  It's a great site with lots of resources.  Also, if you like coin and beach hunting, check out its associated sites, www.coinhunting.net and www.beachhunting.netHope you find an answer to your button question.  It's a really nice find, and I'm curious as well!  Good luck and check out the sites!

Cool. I had the thought that it might be an early post office uniform button, but I'm leaning away from that theory beause it lacks the hallmark lettering "POD".

Hey Brian,  No problem. I

Hey Brian,  No problem. I like this kind of stuff and I have fun searching it out online. Also, if you can scan the other side of the button, that might help identify the time frame it came from. I am leaning toward pre-civil war. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for looking

Thanks for looking radiobuff777, I have looked online for quite some time with not much luck, I definitely appreciate your efforts and look forward to any information you find.If it helps any, I found it on a site ( about 10 miles north of the Jamestown settlement, with permission on my job site) where I have found Civil war stuff (Buttons from 5 states) lots of Union buttons and bullets, as well as alot of Colonial items, cut silver Spanish coins (1734), Virginia Half pennies(1773) etc. Thanks again, Brian

Hi Brian,    At first glance

Hi Brian,    At first glance I thought it might be a pre civil war era dragoon military uniform button. I did a bit of searching online, but as of yet haven't found it. I will keep searching and let you know what I find out. I like this sort of stuff.
