Can anyone identify this case?
Wonder if anyone can help me with this? I found this cartridge case in Oak Park in Montgomery, AL last week. The rim is about 5/8" across and about 13/16" long. Its been partially flattened so I really can't tell. It has a 2 stamped on the bottom but I can't find any other markings. There was some Civil War activity in the park but with a cap it probably wouldn't date that far back, would it?If anyone can help I'd appreciate it. Post on here or send me an email to bmixon

Cool! Glad you got a positive ID .
It looks like an Indian War period .45-.70 Springfield cartridge.
It's not civil war, the Sharps cartridge was the only prominent cartridge used during the war. With those you have to be very careful when digging them because they will almost fall apart when you touch them.
I can't help. but keep going back to your park. Good Luck

You were on the right track. Someone on thefireforums.com id'd it as a .50-.70 cartridge case, post-civil war because of the rim. 50-70s used in the latter part of the civil war used a Benet primer and a rimless case. It's also longer than a 45-70. Thanks a lot.
