Can anyone tell me a good way to find coins w/ out a metal detector or the "pocket hunting" method?
If you live near a ski area, wait until the snow has melted and walk up a trail under a lift, you will be suprised at the stuff you will find, not only coins, but bills, sunglasses, watches, jewelry, cell phones ect. just move slow and keep your head down. But first alway get permission! i have never been turned down yet here in Vermont
I used to work for the highway department and there is money laying along every street and road. The piles of gravel at intersections, around street drains inlets and catch basins, curbs, parking lanes, and the fences and grassy areas near shopping mall parking areas and fast food palaces are great for bills that get away from shoppers.
In the winter I like to go to the piles of snow that the plows have pushed up in the parking lots of stores, when it gets warm the snow and ice melts and around the piles you can find coins, lighters, jewelry, etc. and I once found a watch.
I metal detect but sometimes I find more laying on the ground where people park, on pavement or grass. Around phone booths if you can find them anymore. I found $3.00 in change at the car wash one time sitting on the changer machine. If you can get into the vacuums at the car wash you will find lots of coins. Just my 2 cents. Cliff

one way would be going to a bank and getting rolls or bags of coins and going thru them. good luck. if you ever get a detector you can buy collectable coins with the new ones you find.
