Daytona Beach is one large tow away zone

I vowed never to go to Daytona Beach again.
Be very careful where you park. If there are any signs saying no parking, do not park even though it may be after hours or on a weekend with the business closed. Guys driving wrecker trucks patrol the whole downtown area and if they see a vehicle parked near a no parking sign they haul it away and good luck on trying to find it.
To do this is against the law. They are only supposed to haul away IF/WHEN a store owner calls in to report the parking. This part of the law is NOT enforced and they WILL haul. Each towing company takes the vehicle to their own holding yard and you have no idea which company or where the heck they are located if you did find out. Besides, now that they have your vehicle and possibly your wallet, you cannot do much of anything. I had to beg a passer buy for enough change to make a phone call from a pay phone.
To add insult to injury, they will only accept cash. No check or credit card. CASH ONLY! I don't remember for sure but my fee was something like $300 - $400. And you cannot go back to your hotel or campground because, THEY HAVE YOUR VEHICLE!!! And if you cannot get it out until the next day, they add a storage fee on top of the other fees. If it is on a weekend like it was for me, you cannot get any cash until you can get to a bank on Monday. I guess if you can find an ATM you may be better off unless, like me, you left your wallet in the vehicle for safekeeping.
As you can see, it left a very bitter feeling about the whole town. I even wrote some letters after I got home and, no surprise, no one answered. Even did a letter to the editor of the local newspaper.
PATOOIE on them and their wrecker driving meter maids.

Just stay out of the water.

Just stay out of the water. The whole beach is fair game, but due to the treasure lease sites you have to stay out of the water. There are usualy alot of finds in that area, though not as many as there used to be. I would suggest Driving up to daytona since spring break has just ended. Personaly... I go to the west coast... Oops.. necro thread... my bad..

florida beachs

lI've been hunting in florida a couple of times so I can't tell you alot but, when your hunting in the wet sand and you have ground balanced your detector it's eaiser to stay in the wet sand and hunt a long strech, keeps you from having to retune so often......Keep your eye open for low areas of the beach that have been gouged deeper and hunt these areas ....Also check out the web site on florida www.treasuredivesites.com he also has land & beach sites. good luck to you H.H..ron
