First coin found when you started metal detecting
What was the very first coin you found when you started metal detecting. Come on everyone it will only take a minute to reply. I'm curios to what coin people found when they started. Mine was a 1943 Walking half, and if it wasn't for that I probably would not be detecting today. I found it at an old church close to my home with a Garrett Ace 200.
The first coin I found after buying a $600.00 dollar machine was a couple of 1 MIL Aluminum tokens!
Hello every one,My first good coin was an 1892 barbor dime with an S mint mark in VG condition ,what was great was it had been found on my birthday in 2009 and took 15 minutes to find, and from there I was hooked !!!!! I know it's a machine but that day that detector gave me some love back and a great gift!!!!!!!!
The first coin(s) I found were with a borrowed White metal detector. I think I found 21 with it.
But the first I found with my OWN detector was a 1943 Mercury dime. I put it in a sterling silver bezel and chain and made a necklace for my wife. That was over 20 years ago.
the first coin i found was a 1944 wheat penny
I found it in central Tucson, AZ on a vacant lot. No idea how it got there.
It was probably a zinc penny. But my best find is a 1798 large cent last year.
The first coin i ever found was a 1929 Standing Liberty Quarter. I actually found at a school in my neighborhood and it made my day too.
1976 penny
In 1979 when I was fifteen my dad bought a White's Coin Getter to look for something he had lost in the yard, and when he found it he gave the detector to my brother and myself. I wasn't necessarily looking for anything special and I was having fun digging up everything I found, even though most of it was junk. When I found my first coin (in my front yard) I had no idea that coins in the past looked different than the present coins in circulation. I knew it was a real American coin because of the United States of America on the back but I was still shocked at seeing something so different than a modern coin. I'll probably never find one again as it was a 1921 S Morgan Dollar.
I've been hooked on metal detecting ever since and even though it's been over thirty years since that day, I've yet to find a silver dollar since.
Actually my first was a killer 1883 nickel in an old church lot not more then two blocks from my home. I was using a White's Classic II and didn't know the first thing about coin shooting. Got a hit and dug 6" down to find the coin laying there staring at me....talk about fueling a hobby, that was 6 years ago, and three detectors later, I am still finding coins and civil war bullets within 15 mile radius of the house.
I will never forget my first coin . I was 15 , it was 1972. an historical home had been moved from Altamonte Springs fl to Longwood florida . A friend of mine Tommy had a whites detector. I went with him just to watch. After a while he let me try. I found a V nickle. I dont remember the year. I gave him the coin since it was his detector. But I was hooked, and have been ever since. I have never told anyone this story. Thanks for letting me share. Terry L. Brown....Beachmailman
Mine was an aluminum Oklahoma Tax Token I found using a Jetco Mustang I got from a yard sale.
My first find was a 1921 S buffalo nickel in Fine condition, a key date. My second was a 1947 D dime. Both were found in my sister's yard, which was an older house. I thought, "Boy, this is a piece of cake". These were found with a newly purchased Garrett ADS III and no experience at all and a lot of luck. I've since discovered it requires a lot more effort and attention to detail, but the fun has increased.

You just bypassed everything else and went for the good stuff. Good hunting.
