Hello from North Carolina
Hi, my name is Bill. I live about 45 mile from Ocean Isle/Sunset beaches in NC. I am new to hunting, so new that I just got my first detector this morning. It was free, one of my vendors gave it to me. I want some of you floks to tell me what I have. If you tell me it is a piece of junk tell me, you will not hurt my feelings. Ok it is a Bounty Hunter Fast Tracker. Also, does anyone know if there is a thread on the forum that gives the basic things i will need such as, a small bucket, garden trial for diging etc. Thanks Bill
By the sound of your name, I'll bet your Australian (but maybe not). My name's Roger and I also live in North Carolina. I'm new to the hobby too. I bought a White's MXP and so far I've found some junk, but also an 11 inch long brass bar and a 1990-D dime. Just looking in my back yard and one trip to a local park. Weather's getting bad, so I won't be doing anything ambitious til spring. I like the Sunset Beach area -- stayed at the Sea Trails golf resort for a couple of days once. Let me (us) know how your hunts go there (at the beaches, right?).
Hi downunder: That's good advise from Freddy. Get yourself a nail apron to tie around your waist to put your coins in one side and junk in the other side. Bounty Hunter is a good detector to start with. If you live close to the water go there and watch some of the beach hunters and ask them questions. People in this hobby are glad to give a helping hand. Good Luck, Cliff
Bill A bounty tracker is not a bad machine for the beginner just starting out. Tesoro makes some good machines no I am no dealer I started with the tracker found alot of coins, my share of junk By no means don't go and spend alot of money till you decide you want to persue this hobby. If your hunting around your home it isn't to bad if you travel like I sometimes do and stay extended periods it can become expensive after a while.Get you a good probe IE... a straight screw driver one your not affraid to ruin then work the end with a file, ( I first used a skinny one they tend to bend and break) a nice sturdy trowel to start out with is good I always carry a digging trowel from Lesch and a rag a sturdy trash bag small and medium for my trash, A small planters shovel we the handle cut to around 52 inches long. AND By All MEANS dig everything that beeps this will help you to decide and to scifer what your machine is telling you. Plant you a small test garden everything about 18 inches apart Anything you think you will find clad money silver coins dime quater, iron pull tabs bottle caps and a junk ring if you have one. Plant a dime at 4 and 6 inches and notice thedifferent sounds and tones from your machine. And read as many artcles as you can on everything about detecting. When I started I'd dig a hole now most of the time I use my screw driver with the tip rounded and find my coin or junk And pop it out of the ground. Hope all this helps you out and HH an good luck on digging everything for the first 40 hours then try to guess what you have , and then dig it to see how your guess was. Good luck and may all the hole you dig have gold or silver in them.. Freddy
