So far, I have only managed one hunt this year.  I have one planned for March, and that will probably be it for the entire year.

Getting out

I live in NE Oklahoma. So far the winter is mild so I've got several days hunting in this year. There are few restrictions for metal detecting in my area so it makes it easy to find a place to hunt.

Getting Out!

Pops, good morning! What state do you live in? In New Jersey, I also have to deal with weather. My detector goes with me on vacation, but with all the state park restrictions, it makes it even harder to find an interesting place to detect with out losing your machine. Maybe I'll retire out west! Have a great day & happy hunting!

How often

I feel for you guys. I can't imagine going just 3 or 4 times a year. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, I average over 100 days a year detecting. My wife goes with me most of the time as she likes to do the digging. Even when she doesn't go it's nice just to be out enjoying life. Finding good stuff is just a bonus.

Getting Out to Detect

I only get out three or four times a year also! My wife's "honeydo" list, work, etc. keeps getting in the way. I don't have any friends who enjoy detecting, so I go it alone. I plan extensively in advance so when I do have a day off I'm ready. I use maps, books & web sites to select as many sites as possible during the winter here in New Jersey. Yes, I really do use my down time! I've created a three ring binder of "Places to Detect". It lists GPS coordinates, map numbers, what to look for and Special Notes after I've searched it in case I want to go back. This has helped me make the most of my three or four days. Should a free day arise, I just grab my Book and run like @#% to one of my sites. I don't have a lot of finds, but I do have some nice ones. A couple rings, a 1901 O & 1907 dimes. The great thing is I do get out & make the most of every day I do get to detect! Happy Searching!

Thanks for the reply. So its not just me having no success just trying to get out there. It would help having someone to go with that could find the time when I could go. My wife and I have dif days off so hard to go together and dont really like to go alone for safety. She keeps me out of trouble. LOL

With work, family and

With work, family and weather, I find myself only getting to metal detect just a few times a year. Back in the 80s I managed to use my metal detectors almost every weekend. Those were the days! Of course, even being able to hunt every day wouldn't be enough!

Bounty Hunter metal detectors are still one of my favorite brands of metal detectors, especially the Big Bud!
