Info on Scorpion and Infinium in resopnse to molina over on Fisher forum
I (perhaps inappropriately/I hope not)mentioned that I prefer to use Garrett machines in a post over on the Fisher forum and was asked by molina to provide some info on the Scorpion and Infinium.
Over the years I have used various different brands of metal detectors. I choose to specialize in Garrett machines mainly because of their fantastic customer service, but also because they make great quality, high performance, user friendly metal detectors. I also believe that by concentrating on a specific brand I can master the machines more efficiently.
I own and use several different models, but as far as prospecting goes, I typically use the Infinium LS, Scorpion Gold Stinger and sometimes the GTI 2500. Information on all of these machines can be found on Garrett's website. Lost Treasure (this website) has some very good field test reports on these and many other different models and brands of metal detectors.
Concerning which searchcoils I use on the Scorpion and Infinium, it really depends on the area that I am prospecting/nugget hunting in. I love the Scorpion. It is hot on small gold(match head sized nuggets)and can also be used to find concentrations of black sand(magnetite)to be panned out/dry washed for even finer placer gold. The Infinium, however cannot detect nuggets as small as the Scorpion can, but it can hit larger nuggets at greater depths. So, in areas that are known for small nuggets and fine gold I use the Scorpoin. In areas that are known for larger nuggets I use the Infinium. I have all of the searchcoils for both machines, and smaller search coils are used to find smaller nuggets/larger searchcoils for larger nuggets. I also use the Infinium at the beach/surf. There are pros and cons for both machines, but this holds true for any brand of detector.
I hope this helps to answer your question, molina, feel free to ask for adivce at any time. I hope I didn't confuse you any. Please feel free to research the field test reports on this website as well as the manufacturer's website.
Happy Hunting!
