Lost Treasure coins

Hello Carla- As the "what are coins" and "who won the monthly detector giveaway" are reocurring questions posted, why not create a "faqs" section for them?  Regards. Oh, BTW, bring back the spell check function, please.

Thanks. I knew some of this but forgot the rest. Now every one will know that reads your comment. I love the News and Articles section.  Especially the Tip and Tale of the Day. I read them everyday. Good info in here for the novice to the expert. ThanksSandsifter (Sifter of the beach)

How Coins Work

The "coins" are basically store credit, but they also affect the badges people get.  You get "One Scoop" for having 1 or more points and then get more scoops according to how many points you accumulate.  Currently you can work up to 5 Scoops by getting 300 or more points.  You get points by participating on the site through things like posting comments, creating forum topics, adding a picture to your profile page or just browsing pages and products.  The points can also be exchanged as cash to purchase products on the site.  Each coin is the equivalent of $0.01 (1 cent).  The coins can be used to purchase products when you amass enough to cover the price of an item. For example, at 295 coins you could get a free digital archive (regularly $2.95).  The coins expire exactly 365 days after they are earned if not spent and may not be used as partial payment.  To use the coins on a product you must have enough coins to cover the entire purchase price.

The coins get you a discount on stuff in the lost treasure store. If you don't use them by a certain time, they start to go away. I think that you get points every time you post a topic or comment, and when someone views one of your topics. I don't know how much of a discount you get.
