Programs
Has anything ever came of this idea? If so, will this be a downloadable program for each user or a web based app?
Let us know if you are doing anything on it and how you are progressing. Let us know if you need beta testers. I'm sure you can get many volunteers.
If it will be a downloadable program, make sure it will work on a Mac. I'd hate to be left out in the cold.
Hi,
Just wanted to say we have a free version (ad Sponsored) of I-Detect available for download from our website. It a full version with no limits or timeouts.
Thanks
Should also provide optional printout forms or formats and sorting options.
Concept sounds good. I like the idea of being able to download my data whenever I want to protect myself from any unintentional changes or corruption on or by the host website. Websites also come and go.
Some sites offer online back up or our files, this would be the same idea only in reverse.
I have attempted a couple of data base tracking ideas but end up not logging anything in because I become dissatisfied with it for some reason or other but not the time or talent to start over again.
I currently have a bunch of plastic containers with my daily or location finds with basic label but never entered into any database. This really ticks off my wife.
LT database would have to contain data for all kinds of treasure hunting. Preferably all within one DB. Or, at least linked for easy indexing or searching.
I am primarily a coinshooter but also really dig beaches (pun intended) and enjoy finding relics and bottles.
It would basically be as you described with the addition of having the ability to associate an image with each entry. You could then browse your finds by date, location, or any of the other fields entered. The ability to download it all as a simple Excel compatible CSV would be pretty simple. If there is enough interest we would be willing to give the development a go.
I currently use a simple spreadsheet to record date, location, type of each coin and a comments area. Formulas are built in to track total coins and total cash value. It works well for my primary interest of coinshoooting. The relic hunters need to comment on their methods as I suspect it to be different.
A program maintained by the website is an interesting concept. It would be accessible from any computer and reasonably safe from data loss as long as you are a subscriber. If there would be a feature to download your personal file to your home computer it could be an option.
Would anyone be interested in Lost Treasure developing such an application on the website that would be a private area for each user? If so, give us some suggestions as to what type of information you would want to store, how you would like it to be organized, etc. We may be willing to develop something of this nature for the 'Subscriber Only' area if it would be useful to the community.
I use a progarm called "i-Detect". It works very well for me and is sophisticated enough to deal with a multitude of metal detectors and detecting types. There is a bit of a learning curve, but the folks that developed it are generally available to answer any questions. You can look at it at this website:
Several years ago a friend pointed me to a program called Treasure Tracker. Not a real sophisticated pgm but lets you enter how many coins of each denomination found & does a running total. Every year I save the file and start a new one on Jan 1 of each year. I'm not real interested in having all the details in a data base, as I save all that info with my site info files. If you want a simple plug in the totals program without a ton of bells & whistles it's good. And the price is right! Freeware

I have that "Treasure Tracker" program, and would like to contact the publisher to see if there is a current version. I liked the simplicity and speed of use. Can you advise of a current contact address?
Thanks and good hunting.
