I currently own a Bounty Hunter Lone Star detector. I am thinking of using rechargeable 9v batteries in the unit.

Has anybody used rechargeable batteries in this unit and if so, what type and/or brand?

It's probably not as much

It's probably not as much today as in the past, but rechargable batteries are only 1.2 volts as compared to 1.5 volts for ordinary alkailine batteries.  This can cause poor performance in many electronic equipment such as metal detectors.  Read the fine print on the batteries as for the stated voltage.

I don't have any experience

I don't have any experience with that particular detector but I do use ALOT of rechargeable batteries. I have found the ones that work the best in everything from digital cameras to computer keyboards/mice and kids toys are the energizer e2 batteries. They come in different strengths, the higher mAh (milliamp/hour) the longer they will stay charged in higher drain devices. The 2500mAh are pretty good batteries and they last a long time and recharge quickly in the matching chargers. I included a pic below so you know what to look for.
