Relic hunters are a different breed.

Unlike coinshooters and beach hunters, they are seeking history rather than money. True, many relics - especially Civil War items - are worth big bucks, but many relic hunters are more interested in finding clues as to what happened where and when.

And they hunt in more isolated places than those of us who frequent the parks and schoolyards. They even face dangers that we coinshooters cannot imagine.

In this podcast (radio show you can listen to on your computer any time), I offer some tips - and some warnings - to the beginning relic hunter.

Dr. Bell pine tar honey bottle.

It is a cough med. made by Southern Medicine Co. Paducah, Kt. I found a Figural Adversing stick Pin in my drive way. Not the whole thing but the bell with the info on both sides. I located a man in Texas that had a sign for sale for $33 on ebay. The bell on ebay is worth $12. The company probably is no longer in business. I think it started around 1910-1913. I have no idea when it stopped. I could not find a business no longer open under that name. Maybe some locals could tell you. No Idea what bottle would be worth.
Thanks
