In regards to Coin Hunting in the Illinois area, please share your thoughts about your metal detecting experiences and what you've found.  Maybe new ideas on how to get better in coin hunting and how to set the Minelab Explorer 2 for better and deeper finds.

Ghost Towns

I read that in Effingham county there are some ghost towns where there used to be some post offices.  I can't remember the names of the cities that use to be there.

Illinois Hunting

Depends largely on what part of Illinois you're in. The N Central (Chicago) to about Springfield is mostly loamy w/  little "hot" areas.  As you get past Effingham you get into mostly heavier (clay) soils w/ sandy areas, and then very sandy around Cairo and the Delta.  Illinois and Indiana has it all except the extreme "hot" areas you'll find  west toward the mountains.  In most of the state you can hunt w/ next to no discrimination.  Hope this helps. Also, shout out to Dan Hughes, as he's lived in central Illinois for most, if not all of his life, and is a regular contributor to this site.
