I enjoy beach(sand)detecting but hate bending to check out my finds so I made the four foot beach helper for less than 5 dollars. See picture. For soil I use the spade and hand-rake, also less than 5 dollars at a discount store.
What tools do you use? Thanks Jim

Being creativly destructive and worked out great!

I took an empty "Tasters Choice" instant coffee plastic container, removed the top collar and lid and cut it into a scoop shape then I drilled a lot of 3/8" holes close together but not touching through the bottom and 3-4 inches on all sides then I glued a short wooden handle on (you could make the handle longer if you choose) so there's no metal on the new sand sifter. I have used this in semi wet sand and before I shake I pass the cup by the search coil to see if the item is in fact inside the sifter, if the metal detector emits a tone I can sift through a lot of sand fast and makes a nice rattle when the sand is gone. I have reduced my search time by at least 85-90% by using this creation. This is open source creativity so feel free to make one for yourself or for a fellow bud in need of a decent sand scoop. I also made another sifter out of a larger Folgers coffee tub but used 1/4" square screen hot glued inside for wet sand sifting.
If you make one please feel free to send comments, suggestions and pictures of the ones you made. Don

I've been trying to be more

I've been trying to be more precise. I'm using an inline probe then a standup bulb translanter to cut a small plug. If it's still in the ground I then go to a garrett pinpointer then a coin probe.I'm getting fairly accurate now.

Tools

I use an old used screw driver to pry clad coins from the ground, anywhere from surface to 4". I use my pin pointer to pinpoint the coins. I use a knife to cut plugs for deeper coins because you don't want to scratch silver coins. On the beach I use a hand scoop that I welded a longer pole to. You are the toolman 1JimRook
