You never know whats hidden below!
I live in California and was just messing around with different settings on my metal detector. As I was detecting, I got a strong signal and started digging about a three inch hole with a small hand held garden shovel. After digging about 5 inches and found an old rusted nail and a thin metal tag. I went over and washed off the metal tag and it said Dog License 1963 and recently while hunting I found another dog license dated 2010. I have found many coins and other things like keys, nuts& bolts, cigarette lighter etc. When you find things like dog tags! it makes me wonder what the dogs name was- who's Dog was he? What did he look like? I"ve never found anything thats really old or of much value as far as money is concerned! But then again true value is what it's worth to you. Maybe I get a little to emotional or exited about things I find! Every time I go detecting! my mind is at ease, and I'm thinking! What will I find today. Yeah! I'm proud of those old (Dog Tags) and I like finding different things. Everone has a story to tell,a favorite find. Remember that value is in the eye's of the beholder and sentilmental value in your's. Why is it, that something so simple, can mean so much? You never know! What's hidden below! Thanks for the cool story, its nice to hear someone takes the time to think about how what they find MD'ing could mean to someone else that lost something years ago and how much it would mean to them. It's not about how much money we can find it's about the storys and the people you can help along the way. Have a great weekend! upsmanpa
Thats a cool story, you returning that to them took them down memory lane thats for sure. Way to take the time to show you care, we need more people like you that care. Take Care, upsmanpa
Yep and they want to call it global warming?
imagine being able to take a metal detector into the ocean, underwater, and if it actually works several miles below sea level, all the kinds of thing you would find.
hope the snow melts soon
Yep, I dug down about 9" or so and found a copper social security card about 2 yrs ago. It was made in the 20's or 30's. Just found the owner 2 months ago, through a friend of mine that is a police officer. I took it to her and gave it back and sat and talked with her and her husband for a while, got some great history from them. She turned 87 a week before I called to return it.
Spring what in the world is that?
At the moment what lies below the snow is frozen ground! What an awful winter for detecting, The ground froze early this year, December 3rd, who knows when it will thaw? At least before all the recent snow a person could chip coins out of the ice. I even found a surface 1910 v nickel, before the snow. Now I just look outside and get depressed. No snow where your at? I just got into the hobby, cut my teeth at a small park near my home in central NY state. Pulled a lot of clad and a few interesting thingamabobs including two dog tags -- "NYS 1960" and "NY State Albany 1961" intersting that Albany is over an hour from here.
Have yet to find the dogs.
best find yet is an 1857 Flying Eagle cent found at an 1800's school house site now in a cow field north of here.
Can not wait to get out again this spring.
