I've used pinpointers for the last three plus years and wouldn't think of detecting without one. I currently have a Bounty Hunter, Whites Bullseye, White's Bullseye II and recently purchased a Garrett's Pro pointer.

First off let me say the BH pointer is of minimal use. You almost have to touch the target for it to sound. It has to be turned on and set with each use and has to be reset again if you leave it on to dig a little farther. It was a freebie with a detector I bought so I wasn't out anything on it.

I purchased the Bullseye II and liked it. The depth is about 1 1/2 inches and is easy to use. Press the button and it is on release it and it is off. The only bad things about this unit is the on/off button will fail and the metal prongs making contact with the batteries weaken. White's will replace the unit with no questions asked. The replacement I got failed so I went to the local Radio Shack and purchased a more reliable switch and soldered it in place.

While the Bullseye II was on the blink I purchased the original Bullseye. The depth is not as good as the later version but the biggest complaint is the large square design. It is inconvenient to carry and handle.

Now I come to he point of this post. I purchased the Garrett and fell instantly in love. The depth runs 3 inches in my soil. Press the on/off button and it calibrates itself. It's easy to use and carry and when you get it muddy and dirty you can wash it off in running water with no effect on the internal components.

If you are in the market for a pinpointer I highly recommend the Garrett.

Garrett Pro pointer

I've had the PP for just about 1 yr. Recently when switched on it would continue to run on without being directed at the ground? Other times it would run on after locating the target no matter where it was pointed? A change of battery didn't help also, so I contacted the company in Texas. After a short explaintion of the problem they told me to send it in. I sent it UPS 2 days delivery and the new one arrived 8 days latter, no further questions asked. I have since used it 3 days and it works flawlessly, kudos to Garrett.

Propointer

I'm lucky to be the only detectorist in my area and because of that I am able to find alot of coins but before I got the propointer it wasn't as easy to recover them. Now that I have the propointer my finds have skyrocketed .

Propointer

Well I wanted to give everyone a update about how the propointer has helped me. Since I got the propointer I have found over 600 coins and 9 rings and various other pieces of jewelry. I like the propointer my finds might triple this year because of the propointer.

Garrett Pinpointer

I hear you Pops, it's a great pinpointer. I won my Garrett pinpointer right here at Losttreasure last year around X-mas. What a great gift. I don't know how I have made it this far without it. It really helps find your target when you are having trouble locating it. And the holster is the best way to carry it on your belt. I wash mine after a muddy trip, looks like new.
