metal detecting in NJ or Pa
I live in Kintnersville Pa (just south of Easton) and much of the canal is empty and would be a good place to detect. I am sure the boat families just threw their junk off into the water but it could be 5-10" under the mud by now.
HELLO EVERYONE, I JUST MOVE TO (6 MONTHS AGO) PA AND I AM LOOKING FOR A GOOD LOCATION FOR TREASURE HUNTING. I HAVE THE FOLLOWING METAL DETECTORS. WHITE, DEEPER AND THE ROVER C. PLEASE E-MAIL ME IF YOU KNOW A GREAT PLACE. ALSO LOOKING FOR A PARTNER. AT THIS POINT I AM DOING EXPLORATIONS AT BEAVER FALLS PA. I LIVE IN CORAOPOLIST PA, OR MOON TOWNSHIP, PA.
n2uvu Any updates on your efforts? I live just down from you in Westtown and was curious if you had any updates. Cheers
Hi Blackie,Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The old tow paths I detect are in and around Port Jervis, NY.I have found some great places to detect but I am having trouble getting permission to search. There are some old houses, sites of forts and encampments as well as a few locations that were burned during Brandts raids on the Port Jervis area just before the battle of Minisink. There are markers showing the routes Brandt and his raiders took and locations of raids that took place all over the area. I have sent a bunch of letters explaining the hobby and what I do ,and look for, and even enclosed a sheet for a reply and a SASE . All they need to do is pop it in the mail box. With over 20 letters out there I have not even got one back telling me to get lost. I am going to try to go in person to some of the locations and see if I can at least get them to give me an answer. I figure I will use the winter to try to get spots to check in the spring. I do have one location that the land owner was really interested and I will be contacting her again this winter to set up a spring hunt. It is the house of the first settler in the area so it may have older coins and relics.Later, Jim
still looking for places if anyone nows of a few ????? Thanks
Old tow path is that in Easton pa?
Most of the canal has been filled in in my area. There is a few spots where you can hunt along the old towpath. Most of the older houses are off limits but I am working on getting permission to hunt a few of the old farms and houses that date back to the 1700's.
I'll drive 2 hrs to go as long as the place was from 1800 or ealy 1900's. Just trying to find places that are old but you dont need permission. I'm new to this hobby and I dont want to have any problem's with anyone.
I also live in Pa and feel the delaware canal is a great place to hunt as long as its dried up. it was in use from 1831 to 1931 and runs almost 60 miles.
What part of PA and NJ are you looking to hunt in? I am in The NY, NJ,PA area in western Orange County. There are quite a few places to go since there were quite a few historical events ( Indian Raids and Indian wars sites) There are also quite a few houses from the 17 and 1800's . The hardest part is getting permission to search.
