This book started out to deal with coinshooting, but there really is much more to it than just chasing a detector around for fun and profit. I feel something as Noah must have felt, but I can't tell exactly what kind of ark to build. The worst flood I fear is that green cascade of increasingly valueless currency pouring from the governmental presses. Legal counterfeiting. Therefore, brethren of the magic wand, forgive my straying somewhat from the hobby field, and at least think about what I'm attempting to say. We live in some troubled, perilous times and I happen to firmly believe that a little forethought and preparation can pay huge dividends in times to come that may be even more troubled and perilous than now. I also believe that the treasure hunting hobby field has some of the best folks in this land of ours, and that they have some opportunities that many others just don't have right now. That is what this book is all about. I hope that all my forebodings are wrong, that every stormcloud I see sweeping in upon us yields only gentle showers. Nothing would please me more than to see the economy improve, peace endure, racial, global, and cultural tranquility descend, and the majority of our troubles vanish in an age of prosperity. But hope, and a see, hear, and do nothing approach will not avert disaster whereas a bit of thoughtful preparation has an excellent chance of doing so. I cannot avert a national disaster by my single efforts, nor can you, but we can take whatever precautions are open to us. We also can warn those who will listen, and hope they will take their own precautions. If enough people listen and act, it actually could strengthen the country and perhaps help slow or divert some trouble. Is it already too late for that? I can only hope this book at least helps a few folks do some real thinking about their own futures.
