Cache hunters are a dedicated breed and their focus pays off in tangible rewards. They are willing to overcome obstacles because they seek real treasure, financial wealth, and a bundle of it. In fact, dedicated cache hunters gladly welcome obstacles that limit the number of hobbyists searching for the same prize. Even good cache hunters aren’t successful every time. The beginner should realize this and not become discouraged. Always remember, there are literally millions of dollars stashed in the ground (or ocean) waiting to be found. If you persist, sooner or later you can hit a cache. It may be only a few dollars tucked into a tobacco can. Then again, some treasure hunters have become wealthy from pursuing this fascinating hobby. Lots of treasure has been found by accident; perhaps more than found with a metal detector. Looking for money caches generally means searching for a large quantity of buried treasure. Your cache can be an iron kettle filled with gold or silver coins. It can be a cache of gold or silver bars or even guns. You’ll generally be looking for objects much larger than single coins, relics or nuggets, though small money caches in coin purses and tobacco cans are often found. As I have pointed out, many cache stories sound too good to be true because the facts are often stretched and the stories are hard to prove. I know, however, that the following story is real. My colleagues searched a site in Europe near the shores of the Adriatic Sea and were delighted to find countless individual coins and relics. Upon later investigation, however, one cache hunter’s detector sang out loud and clear. It was obvious that he discovered a very large metal object.
