Depends on what KHz you're running

18 KHz is the best for overall depth and tone response.  The smaller rings will come in around 45 and the larger ones in the hi 60's to low 70's.   Drop these numbers down another 10 points when running in 12 KHz..

XP Deus and Minelab E-Trac

These two machines together are an awesome combination and will cover just about any situation you face out in the field. I take both of them with me on every hunt and decide when I get there which one I'm going to use based on the conditions. Deep targets with moderate trash I tend to go with the E-Trac. Heavy trash or targets in the 4 - 6 inch depth range I pull out the Deus. The Deus is very sensitive to smaller targets specially in 18 KHz, which makes it a great jewelry or gold detector. The other thing that I like about the Deus is the wireless feature and the weight. Working the woods is a dream with this machine, no more head phone tangles in tree branches or undergrowth and the 9 inch coil is just the right size to get around tight places and big enough to cover some ground. Also, we all know how heavy the E-Trac can get after a few hours of use and being able to pull out the Deus is like starting the day all over again nice and fresh. The XP Deus is a fun machine and a joy to use, but very different then the E-Trac. I found it a little difficult at first to get the E-Trac tones out of my head and start new with the Deus, but this is very important as the Deus tones are very different and hold the key to identifying good vs bad targets in many situations

Looks of the Deus

I purchaced one of these about 3 weeks ago and don't let the looks fool you. It blows my V3I, and Etrac right out of the water on depth, seperation of targets and one of the best features is it can actually tell by the VDI number the difference between a pull tab and a gold ring. The learning curve is no where near as difficult as the V31 or Etrac, plus it doesn't weigh anything to speak of. Do a search on youtube for the Deus and watch some of the videos. The interesting part is the technology this machine has has been around for awhile, but other manufactures didn't use it since it is making a standard detector obsolete from the stand point as we know it today. I have been detecting since 77 and have had all the flag ship models and this one by far is the most amazing machine I have ever experienced..

April Giveaway and 2012 Spring Bust Out

I'm really excited about the April XP Deus giveaway and the 2012 Spring Bust Out.  I hope LT confirms the April winner quickly as I know there are lots of folks who are waiting on this one.  LT, when is the winner of the Spring Bust Out going to be announced?  If I miss out on the XP Deus, maybe I'll be lucky enough to win the X-Terra 705.  Both of these are great machines.  Would it be possible to tell us how many entries there were for the April giveaway as compared to other months?  I'm curious to see if there was a spike in entries as this giveaway was announced on several different forums.  Thanks for the opportunity to win such wonderful detectors.  I am waiting to see how you top these in the months to come.

$200,000 buried cash.

Do it the old fashion way the spanierds did it. Use a long metal or sturdy rod and push it into the ground every foot or so until you have covered your search area or found the burried loot. make a map of your area and mark it with areas searched this way you can spread the search days apart to allow for bad weather or searching for other treasures in other places.

Good Luck

As for the winner they are going to have a great day, As for you finding the $200.000.00 i hope you find that as well. My brother did that also just not as much money. We did find it under a a panel in his room, haha about $362.00. Good luck to all.

Buried Treasure

Sorry, duplicate post. Not sure how it happened. Just rent a Jeohunter 3D and find your buried teasure.  I'm sure there is someone who rents them.  Or team up with someone who owns one.  I'm sure that someone would volunteer their equipment for part of the treasure or just for the thrill of trying to find it.

buried paper money

i've never tried dowsing but there are some who say they can find any buried object so that may be a cheap way to find the paper money.

It really would be nice to

It really would be nice to win.  Have read up on it.  A real nice piece of equipment.  Would love to have won the giveaway from Jeohunter 3D metal detector from Makro.  I really need a detector like that one that uses GPR.  I had a friend who passed away years ago and he told a few of us that he had buried money (paper) in a pvc pipe with screw on caps.  About $200,000.00.  Know the area but a reagular detector will not find it.  No metal.  To have won the Jeohunter giveaway would surely have paid off!!   Can't afford one so I will have to wait for another giveaway like that, hopefully someday.

XP Deus

You guys in Europe have too many of the XP Deus already, since they've been out for several years over there.  Got to give us folks over the pond a chance.  Just kidding!!!  I've seen the finds you guys/gals are digging up in the Ukraine with the Deus, very impressive.  Here in the States; our current history really starts in the mid 1500's with the Spanish coming over to the East Coast.  Every once and while, we'll dig up some coins from that period, like a Charles I sixpence.  And if we are really lucky, we'll uncover some ancient American Indian cold hammered copper that dates back thousands of years.  Still not anything like you guys get over in Europe.  Maybe one day, I will be lucky enough to come over there and do some detecting.

He guys, This detector looks great. I can't wait to see if i win. Thanks for always putting up nice items for us to win. Jay

That's GREAT !!!

That's great Kenneth..........enjoy your new machine ! Lot's of history in the SOUTH for relics. My Great-Great-Grandfather, during the Civil War was with the 19th Ala. Regt, Co. C.  In one of his letters ( Oct. 3, 1864 ) he mentions, starting back to rejoin his cammand at Guntersville, Ala. for the purpose of crossing the Tenn. River. If you are anywhere in that area, after a little research, it might be a good place to search a southern camp or operations at the river's crossing, in those days.    Wish you........ good hunting !!!

The Winner

Only 1 person wins the detector.  I cannot speak for LT, but I would assume that the person was contacted and confirmed the winner before it was announced.  Nornally it's early in the month, so I'm not sure what happened last month.

Let me get this straight... can only one person win the sweepstakes or can multiple people win?

The XP Deus

Hello everyone, Well, it sounds as though this may be one of the good ones.?. It has a clean & simple look to it. The weight is amazing. And the programs seem to cover the needs of us treasure hounds. One of us will be able to testify to its abilities or lack thereof in the months to come. And those of us that are already in possesion of one have spoken up. Anywho, goodluck out there & remember to share your knowledge so our passion don't fade away...

Thanks for the info. It's nice to know if it's easy to use or difficult. Have fun. Hope we ALL win one...LOLThanks again.

Contacting the winner

They will send you an e-mail or call you depending on what info you provided on the entry.  Last month the winner was not announced until almost the end of the month.  And if I remember correctly, I think the winner was announced in the Lost Treasure magazine before it was announced on-line.  So, give it some time.

Answers to your Deus question

Well, let me start from the beginning.  Taking it out of the box and putting it together took about 3 – 5 minutes and most of that time was inspecting and verifying that everything was there. To use it, turned on the control unit and headphones, ground balanced the detector, adjusted the volume on the headphones to fit my personal preference and that was it.  The detector defaults to the Basic 1 program when started up.  You could use the 9 pre-loaded programs that the XP Deus comes with and not do a thing to them and find lots of good stuff.  However, how fun would that be, not much.To fine tune the machine….  The control unit command structure is very well laid out and intuitive, and if you are an experienced MD’er, you most likely would be about to figure it out without looking at the manual.  Most of the settings can be modified by going in to the expert menu and are very straight forward.  Making adjustments in the field with the Deus is very fast and simple.  The manual itself is well written and easy to follow as well. Like all high end detectors, it takes some time to really learn them and figure out what the best programs and setting are for your area.  I like to play around with the programs and settings in my test garden and have setup various areas to test in, i.e., iron invested area, trashy area, etc..  I have been detecting for 39 years now and have owned various machines during that time (currently own the XP Deus and the Minelab E-Trac) and the Deus is the fastest reacting machine I’ve ever owned.  I found a 1942 S war nickel buried with 6 rusted nails in the same hold and the Deus was able to separate out the nickel with a repeatable solid signal.  Anyway, I’ll stop rambling on about it and wish everyone good luck in the XP Deus giveaway and HH.  Even though I own one, I would love to win another one.

Good to hear about the XP Deus from an owner

Thanks for the great insight on the XP.  I always have more faith in a post when it comes from experience.  I just picked up an MXT and am sure it's a great machine but there is a lot of little quirks that I don't know about.  It sounds like the XP may have its own set of quirks.  Is this true or have you found it easy to setup and fine tune?  I do like the fact that it has wireless freedom included in it.  I'm left handed and always seem to have my MXT headphone cable on the wrong side.  Again, thanks for the info SR and happy hunting!
