The most famous lost mine of the Rockies lies in Wyomings Big Horn Mountains. As with most lost treasure stories, there are numerous versions of this story. The account that seems to be the most reliable appeared in an article in the Casper Tribune on June 24, 1897, by Charles Bucknum.

Bucknum was closest to the best and earliest sources. To his credit, he didnt romanticize or exaggerate the facts. Bucknum was a pioneer during the gold rush in Wyoming and Montana and well informed. He knew that somewhere in the Big Horn Mountains was a fortune in gold marked by a primitive cabin.
