Temperatures plummeted to 40 below. Eskimo dogs pulling the qamutik freight sled pounded like pistons as they trotted in and out of sight through blowing snow and the violent swirl of 50mph winds.
From all appearances, Titus Allooloo and I could have been trekking the Arctic of 1,000 years ago. This powerful land is nothing if not a reflection of the Inuit belief that time is infinite. “We have two options,” Alooloo said. “We either make it - or we die.”
What treasure could possibly lure a fairly sane man into risking his life against the elements of a hostile environment?
