Loretta Monts McEntire’s great grandfather lies buried under Lake Murray, South Carolina.
Her grandparents and great grandparents farmed land along the Saluda River.
The Lexington Water and Power Company wanted to create hydro-electric power from the river.
They purchased some 60 acres from Loretta’s ancestors outright and obtained water rights for additional land.
The successor company is now South Carolina Electric and Gas and continues to generate power from the Lake Murray Dam.
"The power company has the right to back water up on the lake to 360 feet above sea level.
"They often reduce lake levels,”"Loretta McEntire explained.
