A virtual fortune in gold bullion lies buried near Paris, Texas, secure from tbe picks and shovels of treasure hunters for more than a century because many in recent years have hunted it on the wrong trail site!
The gold was cached on the Great Spanish Road to Red River shortly before a caravan was wiped out by redskins, and though no one knows for certain its actual value, most set it between $25,000 and $75,000.
Many searched for the gold in the late 1800's. But even though the general site area was rather well known then, it still eluded a vast horde of treasure hunters.
The last massive search for the trove occured in 1882, soon after a Texas woman got it into her head to lock up the saloons in northeast Texas, replacing them with tea parlors.
