Direct-Drive Hookah for underwater detecting

Surface-supplied air has long been a good equipment choice for those who prefer treasure hunting in a totally wet environment. After all, it isn’t necessary to carry a tuck load of Scuba tanks to a remote area in fear of running out of air just when you might need it most. A scant amount of gas will keep you going until you grow gills. With no heavy gear to wear, the hunter is as comfortable as a snorkeler, but with the luxury of breathing, in an otherwise hostile medium.

So why don’t you see more more adventurers with the low pressure compressors? Price and maintenance. The better known units are priced well above what a working family wants to afford. Plus, they are powered by iron pulleys and rubber drive belts with the potential of causing mischief in the field which is not easily fixed. Pulleys do get out of alignment. Belts do erode and slip.

The Air Line by 3. Sink, a respected name in the Industry, has addressed both problems and come up with solid solutions.

First, the Florida firm has introduced the first direct-drive compressor systems that are professionally made and rated for air breathing. This means that the compressor is mounted directly onto a Honda engine, thus eliminating the need for pulleys and belts, further eliminating a lot of weight and frustrating fIxes. Direct-drive also allows for higher performance with the elimination of the variables of pulley and belt systems.

Second, TheAir Line’s taget market is the weekender with limited discretionary income. Their “small” unit will support two divers to a depth of 60 feet or three to 30. Although you may not be interested in more than the shallows, it’s nice to know there is plenty of air when the work load is heavy. With a handling weight of just 38 pounds (a Scuba cylinder weighs 40 with the air inside), it is easily hauled from compact car to lake shore. A complete two diver set goes for $1,745.00; still a fairly hefty sum until you compare, and consider that everything is custom---no off-the-shelf compressors here.
