Important Information
In response to a few of the most commonly asked questions I have been receiving since the launch of the new site I decided to put together a pretty informal question and answer type list.
- Q: Why does the site tell me my email address is unknown? I have been getting emails from you for years!
- A: The mailing list we use to send out emails to our readers is nothing more than just a list of email addresses that have opted to receive our newsletter and other promotional emails. That list does not have any login names or passwords associated with it and we were unable to transfer any of what we did have on the old website to the new one as far as user records were concerned. So, if you would like to login to the new website and participate in the forums and other interactive areas of the website please register for a new account here: http://www.losttreasure.com/user/register
- Q: None of my bookmarks work and I cannot access the sweepstakes or the <fill in content here>?
- A: The new website is powered on a totally different platform than the last. The old website was run on a Windows server under IIS and was written using a mix of Cold Fusion and ASP. That resulted in pages of the website having .cfm or .asp file extensions. The new site on the other hand is running on FreeBSD under the Cherokee Web Server and is coded in PHP using Drupal as its primary content framework. This will allow us to easily maintain and organize the site content and allow smooth upgrades in the future. The result of all this means the new pages will all have a .php extension or possibly no extension at all in some cases. If you have any pages from losttreasure.com bookmarked in your browser, please find the new location of that page and update your bookmarks.
- Q: What happened to the virtual treasure/coin hunt and golden globe?
- A: Unfortunately the virtual treasure hunt had been defunct for many months on the old website and was no longer being maintained. The overall state of the old website made it nearly impossible to manage or upgrade as it was. Nearly all of the content you came to enjoy will be available here again in the near future with the exception of the virtual treasure hunt and golden globe.
- Q: Where are the old article archives from the past magazine issues?
- A: You may be unaware of the fact that there are already literally thousands of articles present on the site. You can easily access teasers of them by simply searching for any keyword that may come to mind using the search box located near the top of the right navigation bar. To do a more in-depth search login to the website click the search button and then expand the 'Advanced Search' on that page.
- Q: Have you removed the State Treasure stories for good?
- A: No, absolutely not. The State Treasure stories along with the anthology books are very much a trademark product of our magazine and we know the value they have with our loyal readers. In order to get the website up by our internal deadline of December 1st we had to make a few hard choices here at Lost Treasure. We made a very deliberate point of providing as much of the old content as possible for the initial launch along with all of the very much improved interactive features contained on the new website.
- Q: I am a subscriber to your magazine and would like to know where the subscriber only area has gone?
- A: The subscribers only area is alive and well and already contains the ability to view the last 30 days worth of tales posted here on the website along with a sneak peak of the stories for the upcoming day. We will also be posting extended field tests. These field tests are nearly twice as long and much more in-depth than those available publicly. There are also plans underway to offer side-by-side product comparisons between multiple detectors to help you choose which detector is best for you.
Do you have a suggestion for something else that should be listed here? Please let me know by leaving a constructive comment below.

Hi Sharon...I will bring your message to the attention of Customer Service, as we don't typically deal with subscription information in the forums. If you don't mind giving out your personal information here, feel free to leave your phone number and address. While waiting on more information, let me ask when you subscribed. If it was in the last six to eight weeks you are in the normal time frame it takes to process and receive your first issue. After that initial start up time you will receive your magazines monthly. Thanks much. I will have someone follow up with you.

Coins
The "coins" are basically store credit, but they also affect the badges people get. You get "One Scoop" for having 1 or more points and then get more scoops according to how many points you accumulate. Currently you can work up to 5 Scoops by getting 300 or more points. You get points by participating on the site through things like posting comments, creating forum topics, adding a picture to your profile page or just browsing pages and products. The points can also be exchanged as cash to purchase products on the site. Each coin is the equivalent of $0.01 (1 cent). The coins can be used to purchase products when you amass enough to cover the price of an item. For example, at 295 coins you could get a free digital archive (regularly $2.95). The coins expire exactly 365 days after they are earned if not spent and may not be used as partial payment. To use the coins on a product you must have enough coins to cover the entire purchase price.

I'm sorry but I have tried to like the new change, but I just can't find stuff like I use too.
Great New Site
I'm getting the hang of the new way of doing things and I really like the new site. Rubbing hands together in anticipation of winning one of these fine detectors!
Daily entry
I personally like the new site and haven't had any problems.
All i can say is keep up the good work.
Re: Can't log in
Please read the article...the old site has a different user database than the old one did. Please simply create a new account by clicking 'New Hunter' below the login boxes if you have not done so already. Also, please do not post your subscriber number in a public forum...i have edited your post and removed it.

Re: Monthly Sweepstakes & Entry Limits
You are allowed two entries per 24 hours. However, those are rolling 24 hour periods. Example: You enter the sweepstakes today at 10am and then again today at noon. Now, if you come to the site the tomorrow at 9am you will not be allowed to enter until after 10am because you already have 2 entries within a single 24 hour period. The two entries per 24 hours are not there so you can enter twice a day. They are there so that you can enter once a day at anytime you like without having to worry about the exact time you enter.

Monthly Contest
It saddened me to read your reply that some people were allowed to enter the contest as many as 50 times per day. As a daily entrant, I limited my entries to one per day. Now I find that I never had a chance! So I just now read that you are allowing two entries every 24 hours. So, I entered again today only to get a reply that I am not allowed to enter. We Americans can't trust our administration in Washington D.C., the Congress, State governments and now you! If you can't trust Lost Treasure, who can you trust? I now know the answer...
Re: Subscriber only area
Please don't post your subscriber number in an public forum. To contact me or anyone else at Lost Treasure simply use the contact form. You can also click my user name anywhere you see it to open my profile and send me a message. You can do the same for anyone else registered with the site as well.

RE: Subscriber only area
In your FAQ you state email your subscription number and email address to be allowed into the subscribers only area. You give no email address. Therefore the following is submitted so my account can be marked as a subscriber. my subscription number is ******* and my users name is KansasJack.
Re: Archives
You can browse all of the archives by simply using the 'search' box in the upper right navigation bar.
*EDIT* There is now an 'Archives' menu located on the top navigation bar.

Where is the shopping mall located where you could purchase arcived articles?
Please read 'Important Information' located on the home page
The limit everyone keeps talking about has been changed for several days now. Everyone is allowed two entries per 24 hour period, which should allow everyone plenty of flexibility.

sweepstakes
I like the old way better because I could enter once a day and now it is once every 24 hours. Sometimes I enter at 9 or 10am, sometimes 3 or 4pm. I would like to see it be 12am to 12am,
Re: Control Number
There is no longer any 'logging into' the subscriber only area. The subscriber only area simply shows up as another menu item once you login to the site if your account has been marked as a subscriber. Please read the 'Important Information' I posted to the homepage. That answers this question and many others.
